In a world of compromise and sacrifice, it's nice to find an exception to the rule. The Ridley Noah RS is a solution to the "if only that bike had this or that" situation. It's a fast, high performing frameset, and its aero benefits come with convenience and a great price.The Noah, you know already. It's Ridley's most aerodynamic road frame with a split fork, split seat stays, speedy paint appliquAAs, and deep airfoil tube shapes. Riding it will make you faster. The Noah RS employs largely the same idea, only without the integrated seatmast. Instead, the Noah RS uses a more conventional telescoping seat post. A telescoping seatpost is easier to adjust and easier to travel with. The post is aerodynamically-shaped and made of carbon-fiber by Ridley, and it comes with the frame along with the seat post clamp. The 1200g claimed weight of a medium isn't as feathery light as some frames, but the aero benefits will overcome the weight penalty in many conditions, particularly when you're riding fast.The carbon-fiber lay-up has likewise been tweaked to bring the price downward and make the bike more compliant as well. For the Noah RS, Ridley uses 30- and 24-ton high-modulus carbon fiber. The other big difference from the Noah is that the RS seat stays are aero-shaped, but lack the split stay R-Flow design you'd find on the Noah. But they retained this technology on the front of the bike where aerodynamics are crucial. The R-Flow jet foils in the 4ZA Sphinx full-carbon fork reduce drag by 6.4%. It's a full carbon fork with a carbon steerer and turns on upper and lower integrated 1-1/8" FSA bearings. As with the Noah, the RS has R-Surface paint strategically applied to reduce drag by 3.6%. The cables run internally to further maximize aero advantages.The Ridley Noah RS is available in six sizes from X-Small to X-Large and is available in two colors -- Red/white/black and Blue/black/white.

Bianchi has been in the business of going beyond for over 100 years, and whether it's the bike underneath Fausto Coppi, Felice Gimondi, Moreno Argentin, or you, they've sought to go farther, faster, better. And that is precisely what the Bianchi Oltre is about.Oltre roughly translates to "beyond" and it's an apt description of this frameset. It's Bianchi's first use of UMS40, a high-modulus carbon fiber, mixed with IMS50 carbon fiber, which results in a stiff and light structure. The frame is made stronger by using Carbon NanoTube technology, which increases the strength and fracture-resistance by 49% compared to using standard epoxy resin systems. As unlikely as it sounds, these benefits come without adding appreciable weight.Along with the nanotubes, there are other hidden details that further the performance of the frame. The Oltre uses something Bianchi calls X-Tex technology. The carbon fiber has an X-shaped grid inside the bottom bracket area and behind the head tube. They do this with an internal molding process that eliminates excess resin. The result is added strength and stiffness while barely affecting weight. Bianchi's Wrinkleless Molding Process guarantees that all the composite layers are uniformly compressed to ensure that no voids disturb the laminate. The result is visible on the inside of the frame, with a finish that is smooth like the outside. This uniform production creates a lighter, stronger frame with smoother ride qualities.Fabrication smarts executed to perfection is nice, but it only matters when it translates into greater performance. Since humans are not machines, and our power output doesn't compare to even the wimpiest motors, we need our bike frames to take as much of our pedaling force as possible and channel it into driving the rear wheel through the chain and crank.

It might be hard to believe, but five-inch travel bikes are no longer considered trail/all mountain bikes. That niche is filled with six-plus rigs like the SB66. The Yeti ASR-5 with a Kashima coated Fox Float CTD is the current irritation of the classic cross-country platform. No, it's not a race bike; that's left to the ASR Carbon, it's the bike designed to get around your favorite trails reliably, efficiently, and most importantly -- with enthusiasm. Added to your stable, the 127mm travel ASR-5 will be a relentlessly happy, tail-wagging companion. It's designed to run forks in the 120 - 140mm range, depending on the handling characteristics you wish to favor. In the 120mm range, you'll experience a bike that's planted in the turns and grounded on climbs. With a longer fork, the descents become less dicey, but the front end will wander when gaining elevation. For the best of both worlds, we'd equip the ASR-5 with a travel-adjustable fork. Stiff and lightweight, the alloy front triangle sports a tapered headtube to provide a solid platform for the suspension to work. The low-slung top tube allows plenty of standover clearance, and acts as a sturdy attachment point for the Fox Float CTD shock with the simple-to-use Climb, Trail, Descend damping system, and the friction-reducing Kashima coat treatment. For the rear triangle, Yeti employs carbon fiber. The whole unit is molded as one piece with massive chainstays -- defining its lightweight and flex-free behavior. The dropouts feature Yeti's Chips System, so the rear spacing can be changed to run either 135mm or 142mm. All of the suspension pivots house sealed cartridge bearings for a smooth ride and titanium pivot hardware is used to shave weight. The ASR-5 comes with cable guides for a dropper post, and fits 30.9mm diameter seatposts. It requires a 34.9mm traditional bottom-pull front derailleur and uses a standard 73mm BB shell. Yeti covers the AS-R 5 with a five year warranty.
